Adoption of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) is in danger of stalling. One of the main causes for this slowdown was highlighted in the Lustratus forecasts for 2008, namely that SOA adoption is being held back by fractured decision-making, between the architecture teams who see the value of SOA and the business-oriented project teams controlling project budgets and implementation. The problem is actually more far-ranging than this manifestation alone, and is at an altogether more fundamental level —at its heart it is all about the business audience not appreciating the value of SOA.
